2012 Salutatorian Graduation Speech

Tonight we all know why the senior class of 2012 is here. I would like to turn our
attentions to how the class has gotten to this point. Too many times, we forget the people who
made us who we are. Parents, thank you for your love, support, and continual sacrifices. We
could never adequately express our gratitude to you. However, another group of people who are
also responsible for the success of this class have often gone overlooked and underappreciated.
The past four years, Providence Academy has given my fellow graduates and me the opportunity
to learn under a truly outstanding faculty. The teachers at Providence have not only provided us
with an excellent education but have also equipped us with essential spiritual training.
Teaching is not an easy job and certainly not a task to be taken lightly. James 3.1 sates,
“Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be
judged with greater strictness.” Looking back, I can clearly see that the Providence teachers live
their lives with this verse in mind. This is evident by their level of commitment to the students
and by their sincere hearts.
The relationships among teachers and students at Providence is truly unique among other
school settings. During my period in high school, I was amazed at the amount of time teachers
devoted to individual students. The teachers at Providence want to see their students succeed.
Many are willing to give countless hours outside of class to make this happen. Even more
impressive is their commitment to the spiritual well-being of each student. The Christian faith is
emphasized above all else; and for that, I consider the teachers not only as academic instructors,
but also as spiritual mentors.
The heart of Providence Academy truly lies in its exceptional faculty. Fellow graduates,
never forget what these people have done for you. Never forget the lessons you have learned and
