Father of the Bride Speech –Funny
Well, I am supposed to keep this short and sweet. According to (bride’s name) and her
mother I can get pretty long winded. I was also told to be politically correct, though I am
not sure why she felt the need to remind me of that. I was also told to be nice, but she
did not say to whom so I guess I will be nice to all of you and thank you for coming to
this wondrous affair.
When (bride’s name) was younger we never had to worry much about her. She was
smart, kind, funny, and attractive. I never worried about what type of guy she would
bring home to meet us, or the type of guy she was out on dates with. That was until she
brought (groom’s name) home. Then I started rethinking every time I thought she had a
good taste in guys since her dating career began.
You always want the best for your little girl. You want them to grow up and marry a man
that you see fit. They say that girls look for men to marry that remind them of their
father. I sure hope that is not true. (Groom’s name) if you are as old as I am and are
marrying my daughter we have a bigger problem than I originally thought. No but, in all
honesty that is a wonderful compliment to his character, every young man should aspire
to be as wonderful a man as your mother married (bride’s name).
Since I have gotten to know (groom’s name) my views have changed a little bit. Every
father wants their little girl to be happy. I know she loves (groom’s name) very much.
Enough to bring him around and suffer the pressure of her mother and me trying to get
to know him. I guess that says a lot within itself.
(Groom’s name), I am sure you have quickly come to know some things about my
family. My wife and I are in no way the same as (bride’s name). We have no idea where
she got her strong-willed nature or her ability to be right no matter what. Just remember,
if she says she has the answers, smile and just say yes dear.
(Groom’s mom) and (groom’s dad), I hope that you are as overjoyed as my wife and I
are for this great occasion. Not only are we letting go of our precious little girl, we are
passing her off to your family. I know that you have always been there for your son and I
am grateful you will be there for our daughter as well.
Thanks again to everyone for coming. A special thanks to the bridesmaids who have
relentlessly been by (bride’s name) side through this whole ordeal. I know she has had
you all running around getting ready for the big day.
So here is a toast to the bride and groom. I hope you keep your sense of humor,
otherwise I am in trouble as soon as I leave here. I also hope that you have a wonderful
and productive life together.
