Please read through this template before calling the referee.
This template has been designed to help you plan and develop questions for your oral
reference checks and prepare your written summary of reference checks
How many references to I need to complete for each candidate?
The Convenor of the Selecon Commiee or hiring manager is responsible for obtaining a
minimum of two oral reference checks which conrm the suitability of the recommended
applicants.
Which sec%ons do I need to complete?
You must complete Parts 1, 2 and 6 every time.
Please seek specic examples where possible to support the referees comments
For Parts 3 to 5 select the most relevant quesons to your posion – you are not required to
use all these quesons if they do not suit your needs.
Part 5 is included if you choose to add quesons specically tailored to the role as the
quesons in this template are designed to be generic. For example, you will need to include
quesons around specic job related experience and skills, qualifying informaon provided
by the candidate at interview and exploring their t with UTS.
How long should I take to complete this form?
The reference check should generally take 20-30 minutes. Priorise asking the quesons you
think you will get the most valuable informaon.
Do not ask any questions which may appear to discriminate against the candidate. Contact
your HR Partner if you require assistance developing additional questions.
