Acceptable forms of funding include*:
- Original personal bank statements must show a minimum of US $8000 or equivalent and:
o be in the form of a bank statement or bank letter, issued on official bank letterhead
and/or signed and stamped by a bank official
o be no older than 6 months at the time when the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 Form) is
issued
o contain funds that can be withdrawn at any time
o Add $1,500 for the first Dependent, and $1,200 for each additional dependent
o include: full name of account holder,
type(s) of account(s),
total amount of available funds and
issue date
- Original business or company bank statements are accepted only if they are accompanied by
documentation demonstrating that the sponsor is the owner of the company, or if the company as
a whole submits a statement showing that it will sponsor an employee (the student) during their
studies at DePaul University. This type of funding must:
o be in the form of a bank statement or bank letter, issued on letterhead and/or signed and
stamped by a bank official.
o be no older than 6 months at the time when the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 Form) is
issued
o contain funds that can be withdrawn at any time
o include: full name of account holder,
type(s) of account(s),
total amount of available funds and
issue date
- Approved bank loans
- Original scholarship award letters
*Any documents not in English must be accompanied by an official translation from the bank or a
translation company. The student or account holder may not perform the translation.
Unacceptable types of funding include:
- Statements verifying employment and salary
- Non-liquid assets, such as property or personal assets (land, buildings, automobiles, jewelry, etc.)
- Insurance premiums and policies
- Lines of credit
- Income tax returns
- Statements verifying employment and salary from Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or
Optional Practical Training (OPT)
